News of Efficient’s retirement today has seen an overwhelming online response; clearly he was widely admired amongst the racing and breeding community across Australia and New Zealand.
Here at Cambridge Stud we’re proud to say that not only is he one of Zabeel’s 42 individual Group One winners, Efficient is also one of the reason’s why Zabeel has a remarkable record of three Melbourne Cup winners (the others being Might and Power and Jezabeel).
Efficient will always be remembered for that 2007 Melbourne Cup victory. A year earlier, at three, he won 5 races straight, culminating in success in the Victoria Derby-Gr.1.
Despite ongoing injury issues, Efficient managed to come back as a six-year-old and win the VRC Turnbull Stakes-Gr.1 and only this year, as an eight-year-old, he again demonstrated his bravery with a gallant second in the Sydney Cup-Gr.1.
