Unique filly sells well at Gold Coast1 Jun 2021

Almanzor was represented by a sole youngster at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Yearling Sale and she caused quite a story when presented on Wednesday afternoon.

The filly was offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds and, while bidding started slowly, the buying bench soon warmed up and she was eventually claimed by Victorian bloodstock agent Suman Hedge for AU$200,000.

She was bred in partnership by BF Bloodstock and Haunui Bloodstock out of the winning Savabeel mare Hi Gorgeous. Hi Gorgoeous' dam Calveen was a top-class mare who won the G1 Easter Handicap, four times at Group 2 level and a further three Group 3 contests.

Calveen is a half-sister to the G2 Emancipation Stakes winner Kosi Bay with the Group 3 winners Fireworks and First Impressions adding to a pedigree with an abundance of black type within the first three generations.

Almanzor has been a smash hit in both Hemispheres with his first-crop representatives keenly sought after and have sold for up to AU$800,000.
