Usurer goes all the way at Cambridge

Usurer goes all the way at Cambridge3 Nov 2021

Congratulations to all the connections of Usurer, who posted the first winning strike of his fledgling career on the synthetic track at Cambridge this afternoon.

Sold out of our 2020 draft to New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale, the Craig and Shaun Phelan-trained son of Tavistock had been unplaced on debut but a subsequent trial success had him in prime order.

Rider Craig Grylls took the three-year-old straight to the front and, after dashing clear the top of the straight, cruised home by nearly three lengths.

A home-bred, Usurer is the second foal of The Keept Lady, a winning Keeper mare who is a daughter of the two-time Listed winner The Lady.

It is the family of the multiple Group 1 winner Sea Siren and the G2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes winner Lady Dehere, who son Oracy won an edition of the G2 Turffontein Gauteng Guineas.
