What a joy to see our well-related Choisir mare Vantina resume at Doomben this afternoon with an effortless maiden victory.
She worked her way to the front for rider Kyle Wilson-Taylor and when the apprentice asked her for a serious effort in the straight, she exploded clear to win easing down by 5.5 lengths.
Vantina’s success was due in no small way to trainer Tony Gollan’s patience after he put her away to develop following her only previous outing in April at the Gold Coast.
We purchased Vantina at Karaka out of Sir Peter Vela’s Pencarrow Stud draft for $30,000 and now look forward to a fun spring with the mare.
She has a rich pedigree as a daughter of the Van Nistelrooy mare Vandenne, who was successful three times and she is a half-sister to Sir Peter’s wonderful mare Insouciant. She won the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas on her way to landing the Filly of the Year title.
It’s also the family of the dual Group 1 winner Dorabella and Media Sensation, another NZ 1000 Guineas winner so Vantina will be a quality future addition to the broodmare band.
