War Eternal back to winning ways

War Eternal back to winning ways8 Jun 2024

Our homebred War Eternal followed up an eye-catching effort at Randwick last month and followed up on his return with a hard-fought victory over 1400 metres.

The Bjorn Baker-trained son of Pierro had finished a second-up fourth before he produced a stirring finish from the back to deliver the third victory of his career.

War Eternal settled back of midfield and three deep before improving around runners across the top. The five-year-old, who also has multiple Group placings on his resume, finished relentlessly under the urgings of apprentice Jake Barrett to get in the deciding stride.

War Eternal was purchased out of our 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale draft for $160,000 by Baker and Clarke Bloodstock and is the first foal of the Fastnet Rock mare Aleria, who produced a colt by Per Incanto last season.

Aleria is a daughter of the multiple black-type winner Impressive Eagle, a half-sister to the G1 Queensland Derby and G2 HKJC Cup winner Eagle Way, whose half-siblings Assertive Eagle and Soaressa were also successful at black type level.
