Blue-blooded filly Joliestar has added performance to her illustrious pedigree at the very first time of asking.
Prepared by Chris Waller and ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, our two-year-old daughter of Zoustar followed up a recent trial success with a winning debut over 1200 metres at Warwick Farm.
Joliestar broke quickly from a wide barrier to sit outside the leader and responded under pressure in the straight to rally strongly after she was headed and score on debut.
“We gave Kerrin the option of rolling forward from the draw and she was very tough late,” Waller’s Racing Manager Charlie Duckworth said.
“She was entitled to fold up in the last 100 metres, but she stuck to her guns.”
Duckworth was thrilled with Joliestar’s performance and expected the juvenile to improve significantly with time.
“She is a filly who will be better physically in six months,” he said.
“Obviously, Cambridge Stud are big supporters of ours so it’s great to get a result with a filly that is such a valuable commodity.”
Bred by Chris Barham, Joliestar was offered through the Segenhoe draft at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and we went to A$950,000 to secure the youngster.
She has a mouth-watering pedigree as a daughter of the Fastnet Rock mare Jolie Bay, who won the G2 Roman Consul Stakes and finished runner-up in the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.
She is a sister to the Australian and international Group 1 winner and exciting young stallion Merchant Navy.
All five of Jolie Bay’s progeny to race have been successful and includes the stakes performers Emperor and God Of Thunder.
Joliestar’s granddam Legally Bay was a Group 3 winner and multiple Group 1 placegetter with top-flight winners Bonaria and Paulele also decorated family members.
