Zabeel continues on where he left off last season

Australasia’s first Group One race of the new season, last Saturday’s Makfi Challenge Stakes at Hastings, has seen Zabeel to the fore again in the roll of a broodmare sire, with the winner Ocean Park (Thorn Park) from his daughter, Sayyida.

It continues the trend of Zabeel’s prominence as a broodmare sire across Australasia and he already leads the NZ Broodmare Sire Premiership and sits in second position on the Australian Broodmare Sire Premiership.

Zabeel was responsible for five individual Group One winners last season in the role of a broodmare sire; namely Atlantic Jewel (2), Southern Speed, Invest, Planet Rock and Silent Achiever.  He ended the season as Champion Broodmare Sire of both Australia and New Zealand.

Ocean Park has now won 4 of his 8 starts.  His best win last season was the Wellington Stakes-Gr.3 (1600m) and he was also placed in the Rosehill Guineas-Gr.1 (2000m, 2nd to Laser Hawk), Great Northern Guineas-Gr.2 (1600m, 2nd to Knight’s Tour) and Waikato Guineas-Gr.3 (2000m, 2nd to Silent Achiever).

Lisa Allpress rode Ocean Park to victory at Hastings; however Glen Boss has been booked for his upcoming Australian campaign in Melbourne.
