Champions never lie down and Zabeel has edged his way to the top off the coveted Dewar Award Title following Lights of Heaven’s second placing in Saturday’s A$500,000 Doomben Cup-Gr.1.
The Dewar Award is a title Zabeel has won 14 times previously and recognises the New Zealand-based stallion with the greatest prize money won in both Australia and New Zealand (currency dollar-for-dollar).
According to figures released today by Arion Pedigrees, Zabeel’s progeny has won $4,392,233 in both Australia and New Zealand this season, putting him $110,518 clear of his closest rival who just happens to be one of his sire-sons, Savabeel, the Cox Plate winner who stands at Waikato Stud.
It was a big weekend for Zabeel with Invest, who is from one of his daughters, adding the Gr.3 Doomben Roses to her Schweppes Oaks-Gr.1 victory. Zabeel leads both the Australian and New Zealand Broodmare Sire Premierships.
