Zabeel is no stranger to big-time results at this time of year in Melbourne and yesterday’s Thousand Guineas result at Caulfield was another milestone with the Super Sire being the sire-of-the-dams of the first two home, plus sire of the third horse!
Commanding Jewel (Commands ex Regard, by Zabeel) headed home Dear Demi (Dehere ex Shirley, by Zabeel), with Zydeco (Zabeel ex All Time High, by Flying Spur) in third position.
Commanding Jewel becomes the 21st individual Group One winner from a Zabeel mare. What’s more, she is the third individual Group One winner from one of his mares THIS SEASON ALONE, the other two being Ocean Park (3x Gr.1 so far) and It’s a Dundeel.
Zabeel signalled things to come in the broodmare sire roll when landing both the Australian Broodmare Sire Premiership and the New Zealand Broodmare Sire Premiership last season. He leads both Premierships again this season and if a book was open on the result come 31 July 2013, Zabeel would be a short-priced favourite.
