Zabeel's Gr.3 Result in South Africa

28 Dec 2009

The highly-talented Oracy (Zabeel ex Lady Dehere, by Dehere) won his third black type race when taking out a Group Three event at Turffontein in South Africa this week.

The four-year-old New Zealand-bred horse had previously won a pair of Group Two events and now has an impressive record of 6 wins from 7 starts, with a winning range of 1450m to 1800m.

Oracy was purchased by his trainer, Charles Laird, at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale for A$400,000 from the consignment of Cambridge Stud.  The horse was bred by Sir Patrick and Justine, Lady Hogan in conjunction with Maroal Services Ltd.

One of 123 individual black type winners by Zabeel, Oracy is from the excellent racemare Lady Dehere.  Her 4 wins included the Matamata Breeders' Stakes-Gr.2 and the NZB Super Bonus Classique (RL) - the latter event being the equivalent of today's Karaka Million for New Zealand Bloodstock sale graduates.
