We are seeking two motivated and hardworking Yearling Colt Leaders to join our team. This is a hands-on role working with yearlings as part of our preparation team from September/October through to the end of January.
Catching, leading, and safely handling assigned yearlings each day.
Conducting daily health and wellbeing checks, identifying and reporting any injuries, lameness, illness, or behavioural changes.
Grooming, washing, rugging, and presenting horses to the highest standard.
Walking and exercising colts as directed within the yearling preparation programme.
Preparing horses for inspections, photographs, parades, veterinary examinations, and sales-related activities.
Assisting with feeding and monitoring appetite, body condition, and overall health.
Supporting farm health programmes, including worming, vaccinations, and treatments, under management direction.
Cleaning and maintaining stables, tack, and equipment.
Maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to all health and safety procedures.
Supporting other members of the yearling preparation team to ensure consistent standards.
Contributing to a positive, professional, and high-performance culture focused on excellence in care and presentation.
Previous experience handling thoroughbred yearlings and colts.
Strong horsemanship skills and confidence working with young horses.
Sound understanding of horse behaviour and welfare.
Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent when handling colts.
Strong attention to detail and pride in horse presentation.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

We are looking for a full-time/live-in Assistant Stud Supervisor to join Cambridge Stud at our Karaka Farm.
Start date: June 1st (Flexible)
Must have New Zealand residency or a current work visa.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Handling foals, yearlings and racehorses
Feeding, rugging, mucking out and general horse husbandry
Monitoring horse health and assisting with vet treatments
Maintaining accurate records
Supervising staff when required
Be available for after-hours trucks arriving
Hours are Mon to Fri 7am to 4pm, and every second weekend.
At least 3 years’ experience working on a stud or in a similar equine role
Confident handling a range of horses, including foals, yearlings and racehorses.
Confident in administering medication and bandaging.
Knowledge of broodmare breeding cycles and care.
Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or in a team.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Be able to live on site.
Must have New Zealand residency or a current work visa.
You will be part of a highly experienced team and working with some of the best bloodstock in New Zealand.

We are looking for a full-time stud groom to join Cambridge Stud at our Karaka Farm.
Start date: ASAP
Must have New Zealand residency or a current work visa.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Handling foals, yearlings, broodmares and racehorses

Monitoring horse health and assisting with vet treatments
Loading and unloading horses off trucks.
Hours are Mon to Fri 7am to 4pm, and every second weekend.
Experience working on a stud or in a similar equine role would be advantageous.
Confident handling a range of horses, including foals, yearlings and racehorses.
Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or in a team.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Must have New Zealand residency or a current work visa.
Be available for weekend work.
You will be part of a highly experienced team and working with some of the best bloodstock in New Zealand.
