Lucy In The Sky executed her southern plan to perfection at Riccarton and in the process earned a slice of domestic racing history.

Our promising youngster became the first winner of a black-type race on a synthetic track in New Zealand when she romped to victory in the Listed Champagne Stakes.

Due to the fierce Canterbury weather, the 1200 metre feature was switched from the turf to the all-weather track and it didn’t faze the Tony Pike-trained representative in the slightest.

She also credited our promising young shuttle stallion Hello Youmzain with his first Southern Hemisphere stakes winner.

“We came down here to get a stakes win on the board before the end of her two-year-old season and she had the class edge,” Pike said.

“It augurs well for next season and to be back here in November for the Guineas would be great.”

Lucy In The Sky crossed to lead from a wide gate and surged clear in the run home under the urging of Jasmine Fawcett to beat our homebred and sold King’s Legacy filly Queen’s Legacy.

“She’s a class horse and turning for home I was quite confident she would put them to bed,” Fawcett said.

Lucy In The Sky will now be spelled after an initial three-start campaign that has netted two wins and a gallant sixth, after being hounded in front, in the G1 Sistema Stakes.

She is a half-sister to the G2 Rich Hill Mile winner Ruud Not Too with their dam the unraced O’Reilly mare Too Many Diamonds, now retired from breeding.

Lucy In The Sky is out of a half-sister to the G3 Red Anchor Stakes winner Royal Asscher and a strong juvenile family that includes the G1 AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Diamond Shower.

Jockey Declan Bates tipped the Symon Wilde-trained Imamanzor as a three-year-old to follow after their success at Horsham.

He combined with our homebred son of resident sire Almanzor, who relished the good surface to win in fine style over 1400 metres.

“It looked a good race for him and he was too good,” Bates said. “He’s a big boy and he’ll improve again with that.”

Imamanzor was wide early before settling outside the leader and, after striding to the front on the turn, held a strong gallop for his second career victory from eight starts.

“I was happy to roll forward with him and he travelled well,” Bates said.

“He took me to the lead at the top of the straight and he felt like he had plenty left in the tank.”

Imamanzor is a son of the More Than Ready mare Imanana, whose dam Imananabaa was a quality sprinter whose five wins featured success in the G1 Railway Handicap.

Imanana has produced four winners with Imamanzor sold to Grand Syndicates for A$35,000 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

We sold her Sword Of State colt to Richard and Will Freedman for $100,000 at Karaka earlier this year and Imanana had a filly in 2024 by our Group 1-winning son of Snitzel.

Hello Youmzain has produced another exciting black-type performer in the Northern Hemisphere with the emergence of Bermuda Longtail.

Prepared by multiple Group 1-winning trainer Andrew Balding, the filly quickly showed her talent when second on debut before going one better over 1400 metres at Kempton.

She returned there after a five-month break to finish second again and recently bridged the gap to better company in fine style when beating all but the undefeated Kon Tiki in the Listed York Stakes at a mile.

Bermuda Longtail may now be set for a crack at the G1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket in July.

She was originally purchased for 60,000gns at the Deauville October Yearling Sale and then made 220,000gns when offered at the Deauville Breeze-Up Sale.

Bermuda Longtail is out of the Footstepsinthesand mare Et Toi Et Moi whose dam is a half-sister to stakes winers Kreem, Sardaukar, Rostrum, Kindjhal and Alta Sima.

Our shuttle stallion Hello Youmzain has now produced 40 Northern Hemisphere winners, including Group winners Misunderstood and Electrolyte.

From his Cambridge Stud base, he has sired five juvenile winners from 17 starters with his flagship performer so far our homebred and raced Lucy In The Sky, who has won two of her three starts including the Listed Champagne Stakes.

The best is yet to be seen of War Of Succession, who produced a gallant performance to win over a distance short of his best at Ellerslie.

The lightly raced son of the late Tavistock had been unplaced when resuming for trainers Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson before he triumphed over 1600 metres at northern headquarters.

“His run at Wanganui was better than it looked and he’s going to improve when he steps up over more ground,” Bergerson said.

Our homebred was quickly into stride to settle close to the pace away from the rail and finished off resolutely in the run home for his second win from seven appearances.

“We got into a nice spot, and he travelled really well and kicked strongly, the further he goes the better he’ll be,” rider Vinnie Colgan said.

We offered War Of Succession at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale where Te Akau chief David Ellis went to $500,000 to secure him.

His dam is the Zabeel mare Ziffel, who is in foal to Sword Of State and is a half-sister to the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes winner Amelia’s Dream with their dam the Listed Doomben Slipper winner Shalt Not.

It is also the family of the G1 BMW Stakes winner Grand Zulu and our own About Time, successful in the G2 Sir Patrick Hogan Stakes, and multiple Group 1 placegetter Young Werther.

The late Tavistock’s influence was again evident when his richly bred son Tavi Time double his stakes tally with success in the Listed Scone Cup.

The Kris Lees-trained representative added the 1600 metre feature to his record of nine victories, which also features a win in the G3 Summer Cup over 2000 metres at Randwick.

He settled three back on the rail for jockey Jay Ford before driving between runners in the straight to score with authority.

“Tavi Time had race fitness, having had the two runs back, and wasn’t far away on heavy ground in the Hawkesbury Cup a fortnight ago,” Lees said.

“He appreciated getting back on to better ground at Scone and I was expecting him to run a good race.”

The Scone Cup is a qualifier for November’s A$3m The Big Dance, in which Tavi Time finished fourth in the 2024 edition at Randwick.

He was bought out of Pencarrow Stud’s Book 1 draft at Karaka by Kiltannon Stables for $60,000 and subsequently realised A$130,000 when offered at the Inglis Sydney Ready to Race Sale.

Tavi Time’s dam is the Johar mare Guiseppina, who won six races including the G1 Telegraph Handicap.

So You Will showed impressive second-up improvement at Werribee to open his winning account in our colours and maintain his dam’s perfect record.

The Shane Nichols-trained three-year-old has been patiently handled and was given a lengthy break after an unplaced debut run and four months later, he resumed with a sound effort for fourth over 1100 metres at Sale.

The son of So You Think relished the step up to 1400 metres at Werribee and, in the hands of Craig Newitt, broke well to trail in fourth spot on the fence.

He was into clear air early in the run home and quickly put the issue beyond doubt, sailing home by a length and three-quarters.

“He was probably travelling a bit too well on the corner, but she showed good acceleration and put them away pretty quickly,” Newitt said.

“He’s bred to go over more ground, so the further he goes the better he’s going to be.”

We bred So You Will and remained in the ownership group after Nichols went to $275,000 to secure him out of our draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale.

He is the second foal of the Listed Inglewood Stakes winner Respin, whose first is Almanzor’s son Balance Of Power, the stakes placed winner of four races.

His brother sold to Ryan and Alexiou Racing and Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $260,000 at Karaka last year while Respin has a yearling daughter of Almanzor named Manarola.

She produced a filly by Satono Aladdin last season before a successful visit to Chaldean.

Funfetti completed a Cambridge Stud double at Riccarton where the daughter of our resident sire Embellish romped to victory.

The four-year-old followed the earlier winning lead on the all-weather track of our homebred Avoriaz, who made an instant impression from her new quarters with a breakthrough success.

Trained by John and Karen Parsons, Funfetti has proved a versatile performer with four wins on the turn and now on the synthetic over 2200 metres.

She was given a perfect run in the trail by Tina Comignaghi before angling into the clear before the home bend and bolted clear to score by four lengths.

We originally purchased Funfetti out of HGT Bloodstock’s draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $12,000.

She is the first foal Alternative Fact, who won twice up to 2100 metres, and the Medaglia D’Oro mare is out of a half-sister to the G3 Doomben Roses winner and G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas placegetter Awesome Planet.

We subsequently sold Funfetti for $2000 via the Gavelhouse platform and is raced by Cambridge horseman Clinton Isdale.

We offered Avoriaz at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale where trainers Roger James and Robert Wellwood signing the ticket at $240,000.

She posted a couple of minor placings before relocating to Lance Robinson’s Riccarton operation and made a winning debut for him over 1600 metres in Kate Hercock’s hands.

They settled well back in the field and stormed home from last with 600 metres to run to triumph in a driving finish.

Avoriaz is out of the winning High Chaparral mare Enjay, who is in foal to Hello Youmzain, and her half-sister Rolling Pin won the G2 Shannon Stakes and G3 Cameron Handicap and also placed in the G1 Epsom Handicap.

All five of Enjay’s foals to race are now winners and includes our multiple Group placegetter Familia and the Listed Champagne Stakes runner-up Queen’s Evidence.

Gezora has earned a crack at a Classic title following her success in the G2 Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp.

The Francis Graffard-trained daughter of Almanzor claimed the 2000 metre title in style to book her berth in the G1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) to be run over 2100 metres at Chantilly on June 16.

Gezora was ridden by Mickael Barzalona and strode to the front 300 metres from home before drawing clear to score by a length and a-quarter.

“Gezora is a nice filly, very straightforward, she had a very good first run in the Vanteaux here and she came on a lot for the race,” Graffard told the Racing Post.

“She blossomed physically and mentally she was so happy and well in herself that I said to the owner we should give it a go.

“We had nothing to lose and she lengthened really nicely in the straight. I think she's earned her chance in the Prix de Diane.”

Gezora has won three of her six starts including the G2 Prix des Reservoirs and has placed at Group 3 level in the Prix Vanteaux and Prix de Conde.

She was raced by Haras d’Etreham before her purchase by Peter Brant’s White Birch Farm after her victory in the Prix des Reservoirs.

Gezora is a daughter of the Silver Hawk mare Germance, who won five races including the Saint-Alary in 2006 when it carried Group 1 status and then finished runner-up in the Oaks.
