Bold Soul’s lucrative winter campaign continued with further success at Flemington.

The son of our resident stallion Embellish looked well-placed in the 2500 metre handicap by trainers Patrick and Michelle Payne and he duly obliged.

Bold Soul is now likely to target next month’s Archer Stakes with the winner of the 2500 metre exempt from the ballot for the G1 Melbourne Cup.

The five-year-old’s latest success was his second from his last five appearances and with three placings also to his credit, the gelding is enjoying a top preparation.

He settled in fifth spot and one off the fence before he was angled wide at the top of the straight by rider Michael Dee and rounded off determinedly in the run home.

“It was a great win again and he’s had eight starts this preparation and you can do that when they’re trained out at the farm,” stable representative Neil Greaves said.

“Michael rode him absolutely perfectly and it’s a great result for the stable.”

Bold Soul has now won on seven occasions, including the G3 Chairman’s Stakes and Listed successes in the Tasmanian Derby and Launceston Guineas.

He was bred by Te Keeti Bloodstock and bought out of their Book 2 draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by Hamish Auret for $20,000 and was a jump-out winner before his sale to clients of the Payne stable.

Bold Soul is a son of the Irish-bred Singspiel mare Twin Soul, who was successful on three occasions up to 2400 metres.
