Foire De Trone is headed for better company after a blazing late finish saw the Almanzor mare score over 2100 metres on the Lakeside track at Sandown.

The Ciaron Maher-trained four-year-old turned on the afterburners in the closing stages to nab the pacemaker and deliver her third win from 12 appearances.

“This mare has come into her own and from here she’ll hopefully make her way to a good Saturday race,” Assistant Trainer Jack Turnbull said.

Our homebred representative sat at the back of the small field and hit top gear for apprentice Jabez Johnstone in the closing 100 metres to justify her favouritism.

“She’s done well, the pace was very slow and she’s picked up late. She’s come back much more the finished article this time,” Turnbull said.

We offered Foire De Trone at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where she was knocked down to Maher for A$120,000.

She is a daughter of the English-bred Zamindar mare City Fair, bought on our behalf for 130,000gns by agent John Foote at a Tattersalls December Mares’ Sale.

The late City Fair was a half-sister to dual Group 3 winner Kings Fete, and the family has also previously made its mark in Australia with G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Ima Single Man.
