Smart colt goes boom

Good looking homebred colt Zanardi added performance to his pedigree at the first time of asking with an impressive victory at Hastings for trainers Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson.

The Spirit Of Boom juvenile was tardily away from an inside gate before speeding through to lead and kicked strongly for rider Michael McNab to be clear by a length and a-half at the end of 800 metres.

“He did a bit wrong and was a bit fractious in the gates and missed it,” Bergerson said.

“He’s obviously got the talent and speed, he’s a fantastic type and hopefully we’ll be pressing on toward the Karaka Million.”

We offered Zanardi at the New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale where he was secured by Te Akau chief Sir David Ellis for $280,000.

He is out of the Written Tycoon mare Pazienza, successful on two occasions in our colours, who has a yearling filly by Sword Of State and is due to foal again to the son of Snitzel.

Pazienza is from the family of the multiple Australian Group 1 winner Buckaroo, dual Group 3 winner and G1 Melbourne Cup third Middle Earth and the G2 Prix de Kergolay winner Defiantly.
