Roadcone added another string to his bow when he mastered a heavy track to score over 1400 metres at Flemington.
The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained son of Almanzor had posted all five of his previous victories on top of the ground and coped admirably with the rain-affected conditions to dispel pre-race concerns.
“We were worried about the wet ground, and we were going to lead, but he missed the start,” Moody said.
Roadcone settled off the speed and rounded off strongly in the run home for apprentice Luke Cartwright.
“He was fit and healthy and he really knuckled down at the end,” Moody said.
The five-year-old was bred by Bob Emery and was bought out of Woburn Farm’s draft at Karaka by former trainer Murray Baker for $120,000 and ran fourth in his Te Rapa debut for Andrew Forsman before relocating to Victoria.
The first foal of the So You Think mare On The Ball, he is a half-brother to the two-time Listed winner and G1 Sistema Stakes runner-up Archaic Smile.
