Almanzor three-year-old has Pappa Blue has continued his impressive progress under the guidance of trainers Rob and Annabel Archibald.

He opened his winning account at Scone and made it two on the bounce when he comfortably put away his older rivals over 1400 metres at Kembla Grange.

Rider Tom Sherry had the G1 Australian Derby-nominated gelding travelling easily in second spot to the turn before they cruised clear for a soft victory.

Pappa Blue was bred by the Ask Partnership and was purchased by his trainers with Blandford Bloodstock for $320,000 out of KB Bloodstock’s draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale.

He is the fourth winner for the O’Reilly mare Miss Selby, a talented performer who was successful in the G3 Lowland Stakes and finished runner-up in the G1 New Zealand Oaks.

Her Sword Of State colt was sold at Karaka earlier this year for $170,000 to Noble Bloodstock, Prima Park and Bevan Smith Bloodstock and she is back in foal to Almanzor.

Miss Selby’s dam Singing Star won the G2 Waikato Gold Cup with the pedigree page also featuring three-time Group 1 winner Viadana.
