Smart return from Hello Youmzain 2YO

Persian Wonder took advantage of a significant drop in class at Canterbury Park to triumph in his first outing since the autumn.

The David Payne-trained two-year-old successfully resumed over 1200 metres and performed admirably under 59.5kg to give weight and a beating to his older opposition.

Our homebred son of Hello Youmzain raced in strong company last campaign and was runner-up in the G3 Baillieu and was spelled after finishing unplaced in the G1 Champagne Stakes.

Persian Wonder was quickly into stride to sit in second and knuckled down determinedly to open his winning account.

“His class prevailed, he’s still very immature and he toughed it out,” rider Zac Lloyd said.

“He’s quite a lazy horse and will benefit in the future from headgear.”

Persian Wonder is out of the Irish-bred Pivotal mare Steer By The Stars, who is in foal to Chaldean and is doing a fine job at stud with all five of her foals to race successful.

They include the European stakes winner Never Back Down while Persian Wonder’s older brother Hello Captain is a rising star in the Chris Waller stable.

We sold Persian Wonder for A$160,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale while his half-sister by Farnan sold for $160,000 to Chinese interests at Karaka earlier this year.
