Genuine five-year-old Bold Soul gained a deserved success when he gave weight and a beating to his rivals in the Flemington Cup.
Placed in three of his previous four runs, the Patrick Payne-prepared son of our resident stallion Embellish sat close to the pace under rider Jake Noonan and proved too tough for his rivals at the end of 2800 metres.
“Jake got him to settle nicely, and he was so fit and well-trained that he kept going and got the money,” stable representative Neil Greaves said.
“We were a bit concerned about the 59kg, but it all worked out pretty well for us.”
Bold Soul was bred by Te Keeti Bloodstock and bought out of their Book 2 draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by Hamish Auret for $20,000.
He was a jump-out winner for the Wanganui horseman before his sale and relocation to Payne’s Victorian operation.
Boul Soul has now won on eight occasions, including the G3 Chairman’s Stakes and two Listed events, and his stake earnings have now topped A$800,000.
