Gloaming next for smart 3YO

Trainer David Payne will step Persian Wonder up in distance next time out in the G3 Gloaming Stakes over 1800 metres.

Our homebred son of Hello Youmzain posted his second career victory when successful at 1400 metres in the G3 Ming Dynasty Quality at Rosehill.

“He’s not bred to get a trip, but everybody who rides him says he’ll stay, so we’ll go to the Gloaming (1800 metres) now,” Payne said.

“We’ll go to the Gloaming and maybe the Spring Champion. I hope he gets it, the 2000 metres of the Spring Champion Stakes, but we’ll see.”

In his latest victory, Persian Wonder settled three back on the fence and, once into the clear in the straight, he produced an irresistible finish in the hands of rider Ashley Morgan.

“He is a horse I really like but he is a little bit raw still,” Morgan said. “I knew if I got a gap soon enough, he was going to be strong late.”

Persian Wonder is out of the Irish-bred Pivotal mare Steer By The Stars, who is in foal to Chaldean and is doing a fine job at stud with all five of her foals to race successful.

They include the European stakes winner Never Back Down while Persian Wonder’s older brother Hello Captain is a rising star in the Chris Waller stable.

We sold Persian Wonder for A$160,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, his half-sister by Farnan sold for $160,000 to Chinese interests at Karaka and Steer By The Stars is due to foal to Chaldean.
