Chaldean Colt Tops Day One at Tattersalls Ireland

The popularity of Chaldean’s first crop continued to grow as the European yearling sale season moved on to Fairyhouse for the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.

The dual Group 1-winning son of Frankel was represented by just one lot on the opening day of the sale, but that was all it took for him to produce the session’s top-priced yearling.

Consigned by Rathbarry Stud, the Chaldean colt out of the Showcasing mare Amazing Show was purchased for €210,000 (NZ$420,000) by Ed Sackville, Michael Owen and Hugo Palmer, who outbid Ken Condon.

“What excites me about Chaldean is that he, like Frankel, was champion two-year-old,” Palmer said.

Paul Cashman, who consigned the colt through Rathbarry Stud, admitted the final price had exceeded expectations.

“I was hoping, and with the interest in him, we thought he might make six figures, but I didn’t think he’d make double six figures.

“There were some great people on him and I am delighted with where he is going.”

The September Yearling Sale continues on Wednesday, with Chaldean set to be represented by two fillies in the remainder of the sale.
