Smart filly excels again

Well-bred filly Excenia added to her burgeoning record with a stylish victory at Doomben.

Prepared for us by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, the Exceed And Excel three-year-old came from the back of the field with a spirited finish to score over 1110 metres in the hands of Ryan Maloney.

That performance took her record to a brace of wins and four placings from eight appearances with the promise of more to come during the Queensland winter carnival.

We purchased Excenia for A$250,000 out of Newgate’s draft at Inglis’ Australian Easter Yearling Sale with McEvoy Mitchell Racing signing the ticket on our behalf.

She is the first foal of the Deep Field mare Xilong, who won five races for Tony McEvoy including the G2 Euclase Stakes, the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes and finished third in the G1 Surround Stakes.

Excenia is also granddaughter of the G3 Silver Shadow Stakes winner and multiple top-flight placegetter Pane In The Glass and the family of G2 Linlithgow Stakes winner and sire Gold Brose.
