Cup target for in-form Almanzor mare

Trainers Chris and Corey Munce will raise their sights with in-form mare Diamond Show following her latest success.

The Eagle Farm-based father and son duo have designs on a crack at a feature 2000 metres contest for our homebred daughter of Almanzor.

“She’s been a great addition to the stable and she’s a chance going forward in the Toowoomba Cup, she just keeps improving,” Corey Munce said.

Diamond Show was a three-time winner from Brad Widdup’s before relocating to Queensland and has now been successful over 2040 metres at Doomben in her last two appearances.

She settled last under apprentice Courtney Bellamy, who took advantage of a rails run at the top of the straight and the five-year-old rounded off strongly in the run home.

“It was run at a good tempo, and Courtney showed a lot of maturity to cut the corner,” Munce said.

From the Eight Carat family, Diamond Show was purchased by John Cordina’s Summertime Holdings for A$340,000 from our Inglis Easter Yearling Sale draft.

She is out of the G1 Queensland Oaks runner-up Zenella, and all six of her foals to race have been successful.

The Zabeel mare produced a colt by Chaldean last season and is due to foal to Sword Of State.
