A gear addition proved a masterstroke for Bellish Boy who broke his maiden in style over 1400 metres at Ashburton.
The son of resident sire Embellish had previously placed four times for trainers Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson before a set of blinkers brough out the best in the four-year-old.
Bellish Boy settled in behind the pace on the fence and lengthened stride in the run home for apprentice Hayley Hassman for a dominant victory.
“We were pleased with him coming in and it was a beautiful ride by Hayley,” Assistant Trainer Hunter Durant said. “He’s the type of horse who will go on with it over ground.”
We sold Bellish Boy for $50,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale and was subsequently purchased by Matthew Corban’s Inspire Racing for $30,000 at the Ready to Run Sale.
He is out of the Fastnet Rock mare Stylish Achiever, whose first two dams Flying Object and Will Fly were Group 3 winners in Australia.
Stylish Achiever has a juvenile sister to Bellish Boy named Simply Stylish, a yearling colt by Embellish and is due to foal to Chaldean.
