Cruiserweight continued the perfect start to his career at Caulfield where the Lindsay Park representative overcame an interrupted passage to score with authority.
The progressive son of our shuttle stallion Hello Youmzain struck trouble before the bend, but once into the clear under rider Craig Williams he lengthened stride impressively to justify his favouritism.
“Craig had to be patient and come to the outside and visually, he was very impressive,” co-trainer JD Hayes said.
“He’s still very raw so there’s plenty of upside and he was pretty strong at the end of 1400 metres, so you’d think he’d get a mile no trouble.”
Cruiserweight was a debut winner as Opetaia at New Plymouth from Allan Sharrock’s stable before his sale to Lindsay Park and partners and won first-up for them at Swan Hill prior to repeating at Caulfield.
He settled back of midfield and was held up for room near the turn before finding clear air and quickly put his rivals to the sword.
“There’s so much natural improvement to come from him, once he got into his rhythm he won quite softly,” Williams said.
Bred by Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan with Dr Gene Tsoi, Cruiserweight was a $40,000 buy for Matthew Corban’s Inspire Racing at Karaka where he was offered by Leanach Lodge.
He is a son of the Medaglia D’Oro mare Medal O’Rose, who had a Sword Of State filly last season, with her winning dam the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas runner-up Oasis Rose.
