Following consultation with the NZBTA and our veterinarian, Dr Rob Hitchcock, we ask that you adhere to the following biosecurity protocols before your horse arrives at Cambridge Stud.
Vaccination Requirements
1. All horses must be up to date with their strangles vaccination.
2. The final dose of any primary vaccination course or booster must be administered at least two weeks prior to arrival to allow adequate immunity to develop.
Pre-Departure Guidelines
1. Where possible, we ask that all horses be monitored closely before departure, with their temperature recorded daily for the five days leading up to travel.
2. Any horse showing signs of illness, including fever, nasal discharge, coughing, swollen lymph nodes, or any other signs of infectious disease, must not travel to Cambridge Stud and should be assessed by a veterinarian.
3. If your horse has had contact with a confirmed or suspected case of strangles, or has been on a property affected by strangles, please contact us before arranging transport.
Arrival Guidelines
In-Foal Mares
1. We ask that all in-foal mares arrive approximately one month before their expected foaling date. This allows us to monitor mares closely before they enter the Foaling Unit paddocks.
Dry and Maiden Mares
1. We ask that all dry and maiden mares arrive between Monday 10 August and Monday 17 August. This enables us to complete a 14-day monitoring period before the breeding season begins.
Quarantine on Arrival
1. All horses arriving at Cambridge Stud will undergo a 14-day quarantine period at our dedicated arrival property: 397 Pickering Road
2. During this period, horses will be monitored daily by our team.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a healthy and safe environment for all horses visiting Cambridge Stud.
