Quintabelle delivered an upset victory on her home track at Riccarton when she produced a dominant performance to claim the G3 Winter Cup.

The six-year-old is a daughter of our resident stallion Embellish and credited the Group 1-winning son of Savabeel with his seventh individual stakes winner.

While Quintabelle was sent out at odds of better than 30 to one, trainer Anna Furlong was quietly confident of success.

“He was third-up and had a huge drop in weight (9kg) on her last run,” she said.

Quintabelle settled in the body of the field before picking up ground across the top and produced an irresistible finish in the hands of apprentice Toni Davies to post the sixth win of her 26-start career.

“Toni got her into a nice spot, she came wide and the mare let down strongly,” Furlong said. “I’m thrilled for all my team and the owners.”

Bred by Primadonna Mares Ltd, Quintabelle is out of the Tavistock mare La Quinta who is from the upfront family of the two-time Group 1 winner Quintessa.
