Talisker improved his handy first-up record when he successfully returned to action at Te Rapa.
The son of Embellish resumed off a six-month break to account for his open class rivals over 1400 metres and post the fifth win of his 20-start career.
He sat in second spot to the turn before hitting the front 250 metres from home and was willing to the line under rider Craig Grylls.
Talisker has performed with distinction in top company, emphasised by placings in the G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas, G2 Eclipse Stakes and G3 Phar Lap Trophy.
“He’s been a frustrating horse and has had a few setbacks, he kept going sore with trouble in behind,” said Sam Bergerson, who trains the five-year-old with Mark Walker.
“The owners have been patient so it’s a great result and he’s a really talented horse on his day.”
Talisker is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Glenkinchie whose dam is a half-sister to the five-time Group 1 winner Racing To Win and also the family of the G1 TJ Smith Stakes winner Chain Of Lightning.
