Kanzai carries on winning form

Well-related Savabeel mare Kanzai has opened her broodmare account in fine style.

She was successful on two occasions for us and now her first foal Tillya Tepe has made her mark with a stylish maiden victory over 1100 metres at Pakenham.

Trained by Robbie Griffihts, the three-year-old was allowed to drift back from an outside barrier by rider Nathan Punch before picking up ground near the turn.

The homebred daughter of Blue Point let down strongly in the straight and, despite racing greenly, drew clear to have a comfortable length and a-quarter on her nearest rival.

We sold Tillya Tepe for A$425,000 to Griffiths and Peter Ford Thoroughbreds at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Her dam Kanzai is out of the O’Reilly mare Splits who is a sister to Listed Spring Classic winner Wolfwhistle and a blood sister to two-time Group 1 winner Tiptronic.

The second dam Legs also triumphed twice at the highest level with the G1 WATC Derby winner Guyno also on the pedigree page.

Kanzai’s next two foals were daughters of Hello Youmzain and Almanzor and both made $80,000 at Karaka and produced a colt by Chaldean last season before a successful return visit to Almanzor.
