Speed merchant Ima Brazen One turned her fortunes around at Otaki where she produced a tenacious performance to go one better in the open handicap over 1200 metres.
At her previous outing at Woodville, our homebred daughter of Brazen Beau did exceptionally well to finish runner-up after she was hampered by a fallen runner.
“It was lucky that she didn’t get brought down last start,” trainer Mike Breslin said. “She was unlucky that she didn’t win the race, but she was extremely lucky that she wasn’t involved in the fall.”
Apprentice Toni Davies avoided any bad luck by making the pace on Ima Brazen One and, after skipping clear at the top of the straight, held on gallantly for the sixth win of her career.
“When she’s left alone she really knuckles down, she’s a tough mare,” Davies said.
Breslin purchased Ima Brazen One out of our draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $100,000 and earlier this year secured her half-sister by Sword Of State for $120,000.
They are daughters of the winning More Than Ready mare Imanana, who is back in foal to Sword Of State, and she is out of the G1 Railway Handicap winner Imananabaa.
