A gear addition brought out the best in So We Go at Wanganui where he shed his maiden tag in fine style.
The three-year-old had been prominent in his three previous appearances and the decision of trainers Kevin and Stephen Gray to apply blinkers saw him rise to another level.
The son of Embellish sat close to the pace before striding to the front at the top of the straight and surged clear to score by 3.3l for Bruno Queiroz, who was sporting our silks.
“It’s an honour to see those colours here in the Central Districts,” Stephen Gray said.
“He’s a well-related horse and blinkers were always going to make him better. We think he’s got a good future.”
So We Go is a brother to Luberon, who was the dual Group 3 winner of the Counties Bowl and Sweynesse Stakes for us, with their dam the unraced Fastnet Rock mare Elegant Achiever.
She boasts a rich European family that features the G1 July Cup winner Mill Stream and Group winners Assymetric and Muffri’ha, who both also placed at the elite level.
We sold Elegant Achiever’s daughter of Almanzor for $100,000 to Chinese interests at this year’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale and she has another Almanzor filly at foot and is in foal to Chaldean.
