What You Wish For produced a herculean effort in the Taupo Cup to land the thick end of the $100,000 stake.
The Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson-trained representative came from a mile back in the field under rider Wiremu Pinn to turn his fortunes around.
We bred the son of resident sire Embellish, who has now won five races including the Listed Kaimai Stakes and has also been a multiple Group 2 placegetter.
“He’s always been a talented galloper and gone a number of good races without getting the rub of the green,” Bergerson said.
What You Wish For went back from the outside gate to settle last before circling runners 500 metres from home and cut loose in the straight to win with plenty of authority.
“It was a patient ride by Wiremu and he sprinted so well,” Bergerson said.
“We may freshen him and look at a race like the Taranaki Cup and then try and defend his Kaimai Stakes title.”
What You Wish For was bought out of our 2006 draft at Karaka by David Ellis for $60,000 and is the first foal of the Smart Missile mare Grand Wish, a half-sister to G1 Galaxy Handicap winner Griante.
Grand Wish has produced fillies of Embellish in the last two seasons and is back in foal to the Group 1-winning son of Savabeel.
