Genuine 4YO doubles up for Almanzor

Consistent four-year-old Roadcone never gave his rivals a look in at Pakenham to further his tidy record.

The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained representative began like a bullet to make the running and was untouched to make it three wins and six placings from 11 appearances.

In romping to victory over 1400 metres, he also completed an inter-state double for our resident sire Almanzor whose daughter Undaunting had earlier saluted at Kyneton.

Roadcone cleared the gates quickly to lead for rider Blake Shinn and, despite wandering around in the straight, still had four and a-half lengths on his closest challenger at the post.

“He got a bit lost, but I was pleased to see Blake take bad luck out of the equation,” Moody said.

“He deserved that for his patient owners, we’ve always thought he was a city horse and maybe we’ll get him out to a mile being by Almanzor.”

Shinn said Roadcone travelled comfortably all the way and was more than willing in the run home.

“He hadn’t led in a lot of his races, so it was foreign territory, but he enjoyed being out there on his own.

“He had been knocking on the door, so it was nice to get the win for Peter and Katherine.”

Bred by Bob Emery, Roadcone was originally bought out of Woburn Farm’s draft at Karaka by former trainer Murray Baker for $120,000 and ran fourth in his Te Rapa debut for Andrew Forsman before relocating to Victoria.

Out of the So You Think mare On The Ball, he is a half-brother to the Listed Wellesley Stakes winner and G1 Sistema Stakes runner-up Archaic Smile.
