Sussex Dancer has long been a valued member of our broodmare band, and she continues to make her mark.
The Danehill Dancer mare’s son Thorax is her latest success story and he retained his perfect record with a brave display at Trentham, off the back of a winning soring debut on his home track at New Plymouth.
Prepared by Robbie Patterson, the patiently handled Ribchester four-year-old cleared a wide gate to sit outside the leader and he held a strong gallop after hitting the front early in the run home.
“I really liked the way he toughed it out and looks like he might need further now,” Patterson said.
“I’ll freshen him up know and then come back here in a month’s time.”
Winning jockey Craig Grylls said Thorax, who we sold as a weanling for $10,000 at Karaka, travelled well and overcame his inexperience in the straight.
“He settled nicely and took over a long way out, he started floating around but kicked well when the other horses came at him.”
Sussex Dancer was purchased on our behalf at a Tattersalls Mares’ Sale by John Foote Bloodstock for 57,000gns and she has a 100 percent record at stud with all 10 of her foals have successful.
They include Reeverderci and Meghan, who were stakes placed in our colours while Devildom was also a multiple black-type performers.
A sister to G3 Noblesse Stakes winner and G1 Irish Oaks second Ice Queen, Sussex Dancer has a yearling filly by Almanzor.
