Change of luck for Undaunting

Fortune finally favoured Undaunting at Kyneton where the four-year-old produced a brave effort to hit top form over 1850 metres.

Our homebred daughter of Almanzor returned odds of nearly 40 to one, but co-trainer Levi Kavanagh had confidence in the mare’s prospects following a luckless run of outings.

“She has been a frustrating horse, she’s one of those that comes back every week with an excuse and the owners have been very patient,” Kavanagh said.

Undaunting drifted back in the field before improving wide across the top and responded to every call of jockey Fred Kersley in the run home to win for the third time in her career.

Kavanagh Racing purchased Undaunting out of our Inglis Premier Yearling Sale draft for A$250,000.

She is a half-sister to the four-time winner and multiple Group placegetter War Eternal with their dam the Fastnet Rock mare Aleria, whose brother Thorondor won four times and finished runner-up in the G2 Danehill Stakes.

Back in foal to Almanzor, Aleria has an unraced three-year-old filly by Reliable Man named Neednoman and her Per Incanto colt sold for $300,000 to Hong Kong interests at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2025 National Yearling Sale.
