Genuine mare too slick

Ultra consistent speedster Ima Brazen One added an open handicap success to her resume with a defiant victory at Wanganui.

The Brazen Beau mare deserved to take another winning trick for trainer Mike Breslin and our homebred dug deep to claim top honours in the feature 1200 metre sprint.

Ima Brazen One was quickly into stride and travelled keenly at the head of affairs under apprentice Toni Davies.

They were hotly challenged on straightening, but the four-year-old pinned her earns back to land the major prize by half a-length.

“She is by no means a wet tracker, but I thought with her residual fitness and only 51kgs on her back she was a winning chance, even if the track was a Heavy 8,” Breslin said.

“She is still a work in progress as she can do a few things wrong and that is probably because she didn’t have that much racing as a three-year-old due to a freak occurrence.

“She had a foreign body in her fetlock that couldn’t be identified, but it put her off the track as she needed three months box rest and then another three months of slow recovery.

“She has it all in front of her now and next time in she will be ready to contest some of the black-type sprint races on offer.”

Ima Brazen One has now won four of her 13 starts on wet and dry tracks and has only once finished further back than fifth.

She is out of the More Than Ready mare Imanana, whose dam Imananabaa was a quality sprinter with her career highlight success in the G1 Railway Handicap.

Imanana has produced four winners with Ima Brazen One purchased out of our draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $100,000 by Breslin.

We sold her Sword Of State colt to Richard and Will Freedman for $100,000 at Karaka earlier this year and Imanana produced a filly in 2024 by our Group 1-winning son of Snitzel before a return visit.
