A bold showing was expected from our resuming four-year-old Power Of Three at Ellerslie and she didn’t let anybody down.
Trainer Cody Cole expected her to go close over 1200 metres, as long as the daughter of Yes Yes Yes enjoyed a reasonable run from a wide barrier.
“She’s come to hand really well and her trial was good at Rotorua where she didn’t like the track,” Cole said.
“She’d had a jump-out since and just needed a bit of luck from the draw.”
Rider Warren Kennedy was able to settle Power Of Three one off the fence in midfield and she powered between runners in the straight for an impressive victory.
The mare has now posted a brace of wins and four minor placings after opening her career with three unplaced runs in Victoria from Tony and Calvin McEvoy’s stable.
We purchased the chestnut out of Coolmore’s draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for A$325,000.
She is the first foal of the English-bred Exceed And Excel mare Excellent Magic, whose brother Folkswood won the G3 Dubai Millennium Stakes before relocating to Australia where he claimed the Listed Cranbourne Cup and ran third in the G1 Cox Plate.
The third dam is the G1 Royal Ascot Coronation Stakes winner Balisada.
