The race day covers came off Drops Of God at Te Aroha where she produced an impressive debut display.
The Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson-trained daughter of Hello Youmzain added further performance to her rich pedigree with an effortless front-running victory over 1150 metres.
“She had been a bit difficult at the barriers and the whole team has done a wonderful job with her,” Walker said.
“Like all the progeny of Hello Youmzain, they’re just getting better and better with time and that win will certainly lead the way to bigger assignments.”
Drops Of God is raced by breeder Nearco Stud with Raptors Thoroughbred and is a half-sister to Kahma Lass, who won the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas in our colours, and stakes winners Kuro, Distinctive Darci and Southern Lad.
Their dam is the Orientate mare Distinctive Lass, a granddaughter of the three-time Group 1-winning sprinter Special, with Bomber Bill another multiple elite level winner on the pedigree page.
Drops Of God was quickly into stride to make the pace and coasted along to the turn before rider Vinnie Colgan slipped the three-year-old more rein.
The filly exploded clear and crossed the line with her ears pricked and five and a-half lengths on her closest chaser.
“She trialled up well and flew the gates, and even after leading up I had a lot of horse and she was able to give a nice sprint in the straight and ran through the line very strongly,” Colgan said.
