King rules in Hamilton Cup

The Symon Wilde-trained Navy King showed admirable fighting qualities to claim top honours in the Hamilton Cup over 2200 metres.

From an inside gate, the five-year-old was given an economical run behind the leader by rider Jake Noonan to the turn.

They then angled into the clear and our homebred son of U S Navy Flag held a strong gallop to the post to hold all challengers at bay.

Navy King has now won five of his 23 starts and with a further eight placings has earned close to A$280,000.

He is out of the O’Reilly mare Eliza Blues and was purchased by Wilde Racing out of our Inglis Melbourne Yearling Sale draft for A$90,000.

Elia Blues was a dual winner and finished runner-up in the G1 Queensland Oaks while her half-brother Old Belvedere was successful in the G3 Merial Metric Mile.

Their third dam is the multiple Group 1 winner Canterbury Belle.

Eliza Blues produced a brother to Navy Flag last season before a return visit to the multiple Group 1 winner U S Navy Flag.
