Progressive mare Mollify showed she was ready to shine at a higher level with a commanding performance to land the Tauranga Twilight Cup.
Our homebred and raced daughter of So You Think remained unbeaten over ground with success in the 2100 metre contest after scoring in her middle-distance debut over the same trip at Pukekohe at her previous outing.
Prepared by Lance Noble, Mollify coasted along close to the pace and when rider Warren Kennedy asked her to lengthen stride on straightening, the warm favourite quickly put the issue beyond doubt.
“She can either go to the Dunstan Stayers’ Final, or we may even consider the Queen Elizabeth Cup on New Year’s Day,” Noble said.
Mollify was previously in Victoria with Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman and from a handful of three-year-old appearances last season was twice placed before she posted her maiden win at Cranbourne.
“She has come home and developed and with the extra six months, she has physically matured and the farm environment here definitely helps mares,” Noble said.
“It’s nice and relaxing for them and they haven’t got the stress of a big training centre with a lot going on.
“I’m not saying I’ve improved the horse, but rather she’s benefitted from the extra time she’s been given and Peter hadn’t over-raced her.”
Mollify is out of the winning Lawman mare Mitigate, who we purchased for 50,000gns at the 2018 Tattersalls December Mares’ Sale.
She is a half-sister to the multiple international stakes winners Kick On and Sabratah and their dam Marika was also successful at black type level.
Mitigate’s first foal Hilary’s Boy won four times in England while her second is Group performer Investigate, and she has been served by Almanzor.
