Savabeel stallion Embellish has enjoyed a double dose of delight with success on the home and away fronts.
His well-related daughter Bethany Dee left the maiden grade behind at just her third appearance while in Hong Kong, our resident sire’s son Ocean Impact opened his winning account at Happy Valley.
The David Greene-trained Bethany Dee had finished midfield after an interrupted run at her previous appearance and the four-year-old’s luck turned over 1400 metres at Te Aroha, courtesy of a good ride from Warren Kennedy.
She settled three back in the fence before angling into the clear 350 metres from home and lengthened stride impressively in the run to the post.
Bethany Dee is a half-sister to the G2 Hawke’s Bay Guineas winner Magic Carpet with their dam the Tavistock mare From Eden, whose half-sibling The Fuzz was a multiple Group winner.
It is also the family of former high-class mare Stolen Dance with her 10 victories featuring the G1 Thorndon Mile.
Ocean Impact had placed three times before he broke through over 1800 metres for the champion trainer-jockey combination of Douglas Whyte and James McDonald.
He was a trial placegetter here for Paul Richards before relocating to Hong Kong and is out of the Keeper mare Preetha Varma, a granddaughter of the G1 Auckland Cup winner Sea Swift.
