Extraordinary effort from well-bred filly

Well-related juvenile Sister Ping produced a stunning performance on the all-weather track at Cambridge in her first outing from Chad Ormsby’s stable. Our homebred daughter of Street Boss bombed the start and came from a distant last in Kelly Myers’ hands to overpower her older rivals at the end of a 970-metre dash.Ormsby had been expecting the filly to win and even after rearing at barrier rise, his confidence wasn’t dented. “I thought she was the closest thing to a certainty, everything had gone well leading up to the race,” he said.“She’s got all the ability and will continue to improve. There’s plenty of potential there and we’ll wait until later in the spring with her now.”Sister Ping is raced by Trelawney Stud and was purchased by Te Akau chief David Ellis out of our draft at last year’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale for $250,000.She had her first two starts for Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson before a stint with respected Cambridge horseman Kit Brooks and then transferred to Ormsby’s operation.“She was a bit temperamental and didn’t handle the busy stable life,” Ormsby said.“We’ve only got 10 or 12 racehorses and it’s a pretty relaxed environment on the farm here.”Sister Ping is the first winner for our French-bred Illadore, a daughter of Lope De Vega and an international family that features elite level winners Seville, Will Dancer and Adhamo.Illadore produced a colt by Sword Of State last season and is back in foal to our Group 1-winning son of Snitzel.
