Exciting four-year-old Touchdown produced another commanding display on the Caulfield Heath to further his burgeoning record.
The Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained son of our resident sire Almanzor was in a different league to his rivals over 1800 metres and now has three victories and two runner-up finishes from five appearances.
“It was a very good win by the horse, they went along at a good clip and he made a sustained run and was too good for them,” stable representative Rahis Baig.
“We’ve got a good horse on our hands, whatever we’ve thrown at him he’s taken in his stride.”
Touchdown lobbed along in midfield before the four-year-old peeled wide 600 metres from home and the short-priced favourite was superior in the run home.
“He was up in weight (60.5kg) and trip and he still gave me a nice kick,” winning rider Luke Currie said.
“In the last 100 metres he was going away again.”
Touchdown failed to meet his A$100,000 reserve when offered at the Inglis Australian Yearling Sale and was subsequently purchased by clients of Lindsay Park after he won a trial at Taupo from Glenn Old’s stable.
He is a half-brother to the G3 Rough Habit late winner Shocking Luck with their dam Shamardal Luck from the family of the G1 Australian Cup winner Starstruck.
