Holymanz featured in one of racing’s rarities when he shared the spoils in the Werribee Cup.
Our gallant six-year-old carried a clear topweight of 59.5kg in the 1600 metre feature and burst through late in the piece to dead-heat for the thick end of the stake.
Trained by Ciaron Maher, he settled back in the body of the field and was strung up in traffic into the straight before rider Ben Allen was able to find clear air and the son of Almanzor hit the line strongly.
“He was very good, maybe unlucky not to win it outright. I had to ride for luck and he quickened up very well, he’s humming along,” Allen said.
The gelding has won the last two editions of the A$300,000 Coastal Classic at Geelong and will now be given his chance to complete a hat-trick of victories in next month’s contest.
We race the Jamieson Park-bred Holymanz with our great friend Nicolas De Chambure, of Haras d’Etreham, after purchasing him for A$400,000 out of Lime Country Thoroughbreds’ draft at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.
A son of the Dubawi mare Perfect Offering, he has now won six of his 32 starts and posted five stakes placings for stakes earnings of more than $970,000.
