Flamebird bounced back to winning ways at Pukekohe where she has enjoyed both the best of times and the worst of times. Our homebred daughter of Shooting To Win has now been successful three times on the course, but luck deserted her there when she stepped out in last month’s Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes.“We had a throw at the stumps, but she got her head over the gate and the run was best forgotten,” trainer Lance Noble said.“It didn’t open up for her in the straight either, so the run was best forgotten and she took no hard from it.”Flamebird proved that point when dropped back to Rating 75 company over 1400 metres and she came with a stout finishing burst from back in the field in Craig Grylls’ hands to overpower her opposition. The four-year-old is out of the Stravinsky mare Lady Firebird, also the dam of dual Group 3 winner Hiflyer and the mother of the G3 Swap Sprint Handicap winner Faithful Feat.Lady Firebird is a daughter of the stakes winner Miss Power Bird, who is a half-sister to the G1 Hong Kong Mile winner Lucky Owners and to the dam of multiple Group 1 winner Mosheen.
