The Cody Cole-trained Power Of Three received no favours in the running at Ellerslie but was still able to impressively account for a competitive line-up of Rating 75 sprinters in our colours.
With rider Warren Kennedy sporting our colours, the Yes Yes Yes four-year-old produced a stirring performance over 1200 metres for the third victory of her 11-start career.
“She had to do it the tough way, she may have been a bit disappointing at her previous start, but she was feeling a couple of niggles, and we were able to sort them out,” Cole said.
“She keeps stepping up this preparation and I don’t know what her ceiling is yet, that was a good field.”
Power Of Three was caught three wide without cover near the pace and, after striking the front 150 metres from home, held a strong gallop.
“I got her forward and when I let her down she put a couple of lengths on them,” Kennedy said.
We purchased the chestnut out of Coolmore’s draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for A$325,000 and following three unplaced runs in Victoria from Tony and Calvin McEvoy’s stable we brought her home.
She is the first foal of the English-bred Exceed And Excel mare Excellent Magic, whose brother Folkswood won the G3 Dubai Millennium Stakes and before relocating to Australia where he won the Listed Cranbourne Cup and ran third in the G1 Cox Plate.
The third dam is the G1 Royal Ascot Coronation Stakes winner Balisada.
