Hello Romeo opened his second campaign in grand fashion on the Hillside course at Sandown where he overcame a horror gate in style.
The son of our exciting young shuttle stallion Hello Youmzain was making his first appearance since he finished midfield and less than three and a-half lengths off the winner in the Listed Karaka Million.
The Ben, Will and JD Hayes representative had earned the trip across the Tasman with a win and two minor placings from his first three appearances.
Returning at Sandown as a gelding, Hello Romeo left quicky from the outside gate to sit on the leader’s quarters and held a strong gallop for rider Daniel Stackhouse after hitting the front 300 metres from home.
“It was a terrific ride from Daniel, he was very positive from the draw and there’s a lot of upside to the horse this preparation,” Will Hayes said.
“He’s sound and firing and he’s come back well, so he’s in for another good prep.”
Bred by Jomara Bloodstock, Hello Romeo was purchased out of Hallmark Stud’s draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by Lindsay Park for $150,000.
He is a son of the Shooting To Win mare Julieta, a half-sister to the three-time Group 1 winner Humidor.
Julieta has subsequently produced two more colts by Hello Youmzain, who has seven individual winners from his first Southern Hemisphere crop, and is back in foal to the son of Kodiac.
