Leading freshman stallion Hello Youmzain provided the star of the show at Otaki.
Our shuttle stallion is New Zealand’s champion first season sire in waiting and his daughter Platinum Diamond returned a gem of a performance to canter home in the Listed Castletown Stakes over 1200 metres.
The Lisa Latta-trained filly settled back in the field before improving near the turn and she quicky put the issue beyond doubt after striking the front 250 metres from home.
“She’s going the right way and she’s a December foal, so we’ve waited on her and she’s got better and better with each start,” Latta said.
Platinum Diamond was a sound fourth at her Hawera debut before opening her winning account at Wanganui at the end of last month under Bruno Queiroz, who retained the ride at Otaki.
“Bruno was very confident, and I didn’t give him any instructions, he said I’ll just win,” Latta said.
Bred by Beaufort Downs, Platinum Diamond was purchased out of their draft for $90,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale.
She is a daughter of the Thorn Park mare Spritz, who is a half-sister to the dam of the G2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes winner and multiple stakes black type Aotea Lad.
Platinum Diamond is one of two Southern Hemisphere black-type winners for Hello Youmzain, the other is our Listed Champagne Stakes winner Lucy In The Sky.
He has sired five New Zealand winners and two in Australia from his first crop.
