Well-bred mare Love Symbol repaid a patient approach at Ellerslie where our daughter of Savabeel posted the first winning strike of her career.

Prepared by Lance Noble, she has been a work in progress and broke through over 1200 metres at her 11th attempt under rider Warren Kennedy.

Love Symbol had previously placed on four occasions and was making her first appearance for four months.

“She’s a lovely type and last season she took a long time to learn how to race,” Noble said.

“She’s come back a lot more mature as a four-year-old and Waren rides Ellerslie really well. When she got the gap, she was quite explosive.”

Love Symbol settled three back on the fence and was angled into the clear 300 metres from home and powered between runners.

“It worked out perfectly, the pace was decent enough and I bided my time,” Kennedy said.

“When I got the split, she really charged home for a good win.”

From the famed Eight Carat family, Love Symbol is the last foal of the late O’Reilly mare who was successful on two occasions and placed in the G3 Eulogy Stakes.

The dam of four winners, her half-sister Queen Of Diamonds was a multiple Group winner as a three-year-old to share the NZ Bloodstock Filly of the Year title.
