Young stallion setting top pace

Sword Of State continued the perfect start to his career across the Tasman where his powerful son Warwoven made short work of his rivals at Randwick.

Our young resident sire’s only previous runner on Australian soil was Lindsay Park’s Torture who claimed top honours in the Listed Debutant Stakes at Caulfield.

The Bjorn Baker-trained Warwoven impressively added to Sword Of State’s burgeoning record when he followed up a trial success at Warwick Farm to score at the first time of asking in the hands of Rachel King.

“He was very good, it’s exciting and he’s got a ticket to the Magic Millions now,” expatriate Kiwi trainer Bjorn Baker said.

The A$3 million Magic Millions will be run over 1200 metres at the Gold Coast on January 17.

Baker had formed a good opinion of Warwoven, but was pleasantly surprised by the dominance of his victory.

“I thought it was a big ask, he only had the one trial so I was questioning that and if the 1000 metres would be too sharp for him,” he said.

“After that win, I do know that going to 1200 metres will be even better for him.”

The colt was sourced by Baker’s bloodstock agent Jim Clarke at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he was offered by breeder Kia Ora Stud and knocked down for A$380,000.

“I’m absolutely thrilled and another great purchase by Jim Clarke, he makes my job and team’s so much easier,” Baker said.

Warwoven is the first foal of the Makfi mare Needle And Thread, who was a quality performer and won the G2 Royal Stakes and placed at Group 2 level in the Sir Tristram Fillies’ Classic and Eight Carat Classic and G3 Sunline Vase.
